Proto-Finnic
Etymology
From *-h- + *-inen. The initial component is the 'weak grade' of *-s- (rather, developed via a regular sound change, not via consonant gradation) that is also found in the inessive (*-ssa) and illative (*-hen) endings, which in this affix has a locative sense.
Suffix
*-hinen
