Borrowed with a metathesis from a Indo-Iranian language, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *saȷ́ʰásram. Compare Sanskrit सहस्र (sahasra) and Avestan 𐬵𐬀𐬰𐬀𐬢𐬭𐬀‎ (hazaŋra).
