Etymology

From *orz- + *oriti. Cognate with Lithuanian ardýti (to pull down, to destroy), Latvian ā̀rdît (to destroy, to scatter). Trubachev notes a possible connection to Hittite [script needed] (ḫarra-, to break, to destroy, to grind). See *oriti for further cognates.
