Etymology
Has been compared with Lithuanian tul̃žti (“to inflate, to swell”), Latvian tùlzt (“to swell”). Possibly akin to Proto-Slavic *tъlpa (“crowd”).
The ending *-stъ is of uncertain origin (see there for discussion).
