From Ukrainian Шостак (Šostak) and Belarusian Шостак (Šóstak), from Ukrainian шостий (šostyj, sixth) and Belarusian шосты (šósty, sixth). Less commonly, a respelling of Polish Szostak, Szóstak, and Slovak Šosták. Ultimately, from a derivative of Proto-Slavic *šestъ (sixth).
