Stadtbild

From Stadt (“town, city”) +‎ Bild (“image”), perhaps influenced by Weichbild (“city area”), in which the component -bild is, however, not immediately equivalent to German Bild.

Stadtbild n (genitive Stadtbilds or Stadtbildes, plural Stadtbilder)

1. the appearance of a town or city; townscape, cityscape, but referring more to its appearance as one walks through it, rather than the skyline

   Fachwerkhäuser prägen bis heute das Stadtbild.

   Half-timbered houses dominate the town’s appearance to this day.

2. the streets and public areas of a town or city, especially the centre and other areas of interest

   Überall im Stadtbild finden sich Hinweise auf die historische Bedeutung des Bergbaus.

   References to the historical importance of mining are found throughout the city.
