1. (automotive, engineering) Referring to an internal combustion engine piston cylinder configuration, where the cylinders are aligned in a V-like shape, in which there is an acute angle between the cylinders, and the bottom of the cylinder, where the crank is, is the bottom of the V, and the top of the cylinder is where the fuel, intake and exhaust ports are located.

• W- (like the V-, but with an additional cylinder row up the centre)
• Y- (like the V-, but with an additional cylinder row down the centre)
• X- (shaped like an X)
• H- (flat, horizontal, 180-angle; boxer)
