Etymology 2
Borrowed from Middle Low German [Term?], from Old Norse fjellfräs (“mountain cat”), from fjall (“mountain”) (cognate to English fell (“mountain”)). Cognate with present day dialectal Norwegian fjellfross (“mountain tomcat”). Respelled based on the folk-etymological belief that it had the same derivation as Vielfraß (“gluttonous person”).
