Cyrillic апармаг
Perso-Arabic آپارماق

Etymology

From Old Anatolian Turkish [script needed] (aparmaq), probably from *alıb barmak, equivalent to alıb, converb of almaq (to take) + varmaq (to go). Compare Uzbek obormoq, Uzbek obormoq, Uyghur ئاپارماق (aparmaq) and dialectal Turkish aparmak with the same meaning. Compare also Shor апар (to take away).

Figurative senses are probably a calque of Russian вести (vesti).
