From Ottoman Turkish آیرتلمق (ayırtlamaḳ, to make or show a difference or preference for, to select, to clear of refuse)[1], from Proto-Turkic *adïrtla- (to differentiate, to separate)[2], from Proto-Turkic *adïrt (difference, separation), from Proto-Turkic *adïr- (to separate)[3][4], equivalent to ayı(k)- + -la + -mak.
