Etymology
Either from a blend of bantay + matayog[1] or from a contraction of aba ang tayog,[2] coined in the early 20th century by Eusebio T. Daluz,[3] one of the founders of the Akademya ng Wikang Pilipino (Academy of the Filipino Language), one of the predecessors of the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF) (Commission on the Filipino Language).
