Etymology

Probably from Proto-Germanic *burjลnฤ…. Akin to Gothic ๐Œฒ๐Œฐ๐Œฑ๐Œฐ๐Œฟ๐‚๐Œพ๐‰๐Œธ๐Œฟ๐ƒ (gabaurjลรพus, โ€œpleasureโ€). Krause & Slocum argue that the ending may reflect the Proto-Germanic nominative singular ending *-az.[1]
