brushtull
Albanian
Pronunciation
- IPA(key): /ˈbɾuʃtuɫ/
Etymology 1
From Proto-Albanian *brustula, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰrust- (compare Old Saxon brustian (“to sprout”), Russian брость (brostʹ, “buds (of a shrub)”), from the root *bʰrews- (“to swell, grow”).[1]. Topalli has argued for a borrowing from Serbo-Croatian bljušt[2], although this seems unlikely on phonetic grounds. Compare also Romanian brusture (“heather”).
Alternative forms
- brushtullë, bruzhdull
Noun
brushtull f (indefinite plural brushtulla, definite singular brushtulla, definite plural brushtullat)
- (botany) ivy (Hedera helix)
