Etymology
Borrowed from Romanian brânză. Cognates include Russian брынза (brynza) and Slovak bryndza. of uncertain origin; it was possibly borrowed from Albanian brëndës (“intestines”). Originally referred to cheeses prepared in a sheep's stomach by reacting with the rennet inside.[1]
