   Chciałbym zjeść spaghetti. ― I would like to eat spaghetti.

2. (transitive) Used in polite commands; to want [+ żeby (past tense)], [+ aby (past tense)], or [+ by (past tense) = to do what]

   Chcę, żebyś zjadł spaghetti. ― I want you to eat spaghetti.

   Chce mi się pobiegać. ― I feel like running for a bit.

5. (reflexive, impersonal) Used to indicate when someone is experiencing a specific condition of their body that is associated with an action indicated by the subordinate verb; to want [+infinitive]

   Nikomu nie chciało się spać. ― No one was tired. (literally, “No one felt like sleeping.”)

   Chce mi się jeść. ― I'm hungry. (literally, “I feel like eating.”)

   Chce mi się pić. ― I'm thirsty. (literally, “I feel like drinking.”)

According to Słownik frekwencyjny polszczyzny współczesnej (1990), chcieć is one of the top 10,355 most used words in Polish, appearing 36 times in scientific texts, 15 times in news, 105 times in essays, 216 times in fiction, and 467 times in plays, totaling 839 times, making it the 52nd most common word in a corpus of 500,000 words.[2]
