From Proto-Scythian *capi (compare Ossetian цӕу (cæw)), from Turkic *čepiš (half-yearling kid) (whence Persian چپش (čapeš, yearling kid), Azerbaijani çəpiş). Lent Romanian țap. Doublet of sqap, with initial s- identical to Germanic (see sheep).
