Etymology
From Proto-Scythian *capi (compare Ossetian цӕу (cæw)), from Turkic *čepiš (“half-yearling kid”) (whence Persian چپش (čapeš, “yearling kid”), Azerbaijani çəpiş). Lent Romanian țap. Doublet of sqap, with initial s- identical to Germanic (see sheep).
