One proposed etymology starts with the variant (now mostly regional or archaic) form, desghina, and has it modified and crossed with îmbina through analogy in relatively modern times. The word desghina, which has an Aromanian cognate, dizgjlin, dizgljinari (“to cut branches”), has been traced by some to a Vulgar Latin *disglutināre from Latin glūtinō, or alternatively to a root *disglināre from Ancient Greek γλίνη (glínē, “tail”), though both of these are uncertain. Cf. also the antonym înghina, taken as a variant form of îmbina. Another possibility for dezbina/desbina may be a Latin root *disbināre, ultimately from bīnī, or simply des- + (îm)bina.[1]
