Etymology

Disputed:

  1. according to Orel, from Proto-Slavic *kъrxati (to cough, expectorate), cognate to Serbo-Croatian kȑhati,[1]
  2. according to Çabej, an onomatopoeia or cognate of Albanian grahmë.[2]

Çabej's work in generally heldt in higher reguard tend to take precedent above conflicting sources. Orel's etymologies are also considered outdated and are rooted in a bias favoring slavic connections, due to his interest of proving Albanian as an Albanian-balto-slavic branch.
