From Old Turkic ketmen, from Proto-Turkic *kēt-men (hoe, mattock), usually derived from Proto-Turkic *gēt- 'to notch', from Proto-Altaic *k`i̯ōt`e 'a k. of knife or arrow'.[1] See getmek.
