Etymology

From Proto-Germanic *galīkaz. Cognate with Old Frisian līk, Old Saxon gilīk, Old Dutch *gilīk, Old High German gilīh, Old Norse líkr, Gothic 𐌲𐌰𐌻𐌴𐌹𐌺𐍃 (galeiks). Equivalent to ġe- + līċ.
