Etymology
From Proto-Bisayan *gin- (c.f. Cebuano gi- and Hiligaynon gin- prefixes) + Greater Central Philippine *túʔuh (“believe; give credence to”) (c.f. Tagalog totoo, Cebuano tuo), from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *tuqu (“true”). Compare Kapampangan ginu, Bikol Central ginoo, Cebuano ginoo, and Kapampangan ginu. Also possibly related to Sanskrit नु (nu, “praise”), or noo (“forehead”).
