Etymology

Inherited from Ottoman Turkish حشری (ḥaşeri, of the class of professional vagrants, vagabonds; hence, a wild, dissolute, lascivious man or beast),[1][2] from Arabic حَشَرة (ḥašara, insect, small creeping animal) with ـِيّ‎ (-iyy) nisba suffix.[3]
