half-bat (plural half-bats)

  1. (construction) A bat (brick with one whole end) that is exactly half the length of the original brick.

      To avoid excessive cutting, the bond is arranged as shown in the figure, i.e. two half-bats and a one-brick bonder placed alternately.
  2. (military) A half of a battalion.
