Uncertain. According to Blust (2010), either from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *lamuʀ, or from the hypothetical Old Tagalog *lamug, from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *dahəmuʀ. Compare Ilocano amor, Ibaloi amol, Cebuano yamog, Hiligaynon namog, Maranao namog, Tboli amu, Tausug damug, and Malay nyamur.
