From Ottoman Turkish حلزون (halezon), from Arabic حَلَزُون (ḥalazūn) via Aramaic חְלָזֹונָא / ܚܠܵܙܘܿܢܵܐ (ḥəlāzōnā, “shellfish, rock snail”), possibly from Ancient Greek ἑλίκων (helíkōn), a case form of ἕλιξ (hélix, “spiral, helix”).
