From Old Ossetic [Term?], ultimately from Proto-Iranian *xwarž-; cognate with Iron хорз (xorz), Digor хуарз (xwarz, good), Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (hwʾlyst' /xwālist/, sweetest), and Avestan 𐬓𐬀𐬭𐬆𐬰𐬌𐬱𐬙𐬀-‎ (xᵛarəzišta-‎, sweetest). Compare also Old Armenian ախորժ (axorž), an Iranian borrowing.
