Etymology
From Anglo-Frisian *hrį̄þir, from Proto-West Germanic *hrinþ (“head of cattle”), from Proto-Germanic *hrinþaz (“ox”), from Proto-Indo-European *ḱer- (“horn”). Cognates include Old English hrīþer, Old Saxon hrīth and Old Dutch hrind.
