possibly from Proto-Albanian *hĭwĭd-lʉh (“water snake”), from older Proto-Albanian *hud-lós from Proto-Indo-European udlós. from indo european *wed- (“water”) + *-lós (“belonging to”) possibly related to Illyrian *hud-lo (“Hullur”), endonym for Illyrians who considered snakes as dieties as Illyrios, son of Cadmus and Harmonia, swam to Illyria as water snakes.[1][2]
