Etymology
The videogame slang was made up from a popular Dark Souls PvP community player named Saber-X in early 2013 and became popular later that year when online contents such as YouTube videos were made in attempt to explain the videogame mechanics to the audience. Although the videogame mechanic itself dates way before the year 2013, but in other slangs or abbreviations such as MOI (moment of invincibility) in the old Monster Hunter community, immunity time in other games.
