kërcas

Albanian

Alternative forms

Etymology

Uncertain. It could be:

  1. a variant of gërthas, from dialectal gërcas
  2. according to Orel, an early loanword from Proto-Slavic *kričati (to cry, shout) (although the meaning of the verb is not attested in South Slavic; see Serbo-Croatian kričati (to warn)), with *-č- > -c-.[1]. However, this is less likely.

Verb

kërcas (first-person singular past tense kërcita, participle kërcitur)

  1. to crack, to snap
  2. to cry, to shout, to yell
