Possibly from Hokkien 共伊刣 (kā i thâi),[1][2] or Hokkien 刣 (thâi) & 共 (kā) are possibly just related in general, just as Tagalog matay, patay, bitay, ka-, and Thai ตาย (dtaai, “to die”).
