Etymology
From Proto-Philippine *kubu, from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *kubu. Cognate with Ilocano kubo, Indonesian kubu and Malay kubu. Stress shifted from the final syllable to the penultimate due to contamination with the unrelated Spanish cubo (“cube”).
