From Proto-Finnic *lähe- (compare Estonian läheda (adjective), Livonian ležgõl (adverb), Livvi ľähekkäh (adverb) and Votic lʹähe (adverb)), probably from Proto-Uralic *läse (compare Eastern Mari лишне (ĺišńe), Tundra Nenets ет’ and possibly Hungarian le-).
