leucophanite

Originally named Leukophan (1840) by the Norwegian mineralogist Jens Esmark, in allusion to its whitish color, from Ancient Greek λευκός (leukós, “white”) + φαίνω (phaínō, “appear”). The suffix -ite, added later, is used to form nouns denoting minerals.
