From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *g-na-s (stay, rest). Cognate with Burmese နား (na:). Possibly also related with Old Chinese 西 (OC *sɯːl) ("west") and Tibetan མནལ་བ (mnal ba, sleep (honorific)) (Hill(2019)). Compare Zaiwa no.
