negoț
Romanian
Etymology
From Latin negōtium. An alternative theory includes the possibility of a borrowing from Italian negozio instead (as Latin -tium would have normally yielded -ci), but there may have been a change in suffix in the local Vulgar Latin speech. The presence of the diphthongized plural form negoațe in the sixteenth century, however, seems to reinforce it as an inherited term.[1]
