popă
Romanian
Etymology
Borrowed from Old Church Slavonic попъ (popŭ), from Ancient Greek παπάς (papás), variant of πάππας (páppas, “daddy, papa”). Compare also Aromanian popã, pãpã. Or alternatively, from Latin popa, papa, hence its presence in other neighbour languages.
