Inherited from Old Polish rozdrzeszyć, rozgrzeszyć, rozrzeszyć, from roz- + Proto-Slavic *rěšiti, a calque of Latin absolvō. Compare Old Czech rozhřěšiti, under influence of grzech due to its religious connotation.
