Usage notes
The sense referring to a trans person is among the most offensive terms for a trans person in English. It is almost always applied to AMAB trans women and is, perhaps, only outranked in offensiveness by shemale, with which it is often used synonymously, especially in pornography. Trans people occasionnally self-apply tranny as a reclaimed slur.
Derived terms
- (a trans person): tranny chaser, trannydom, trannify
Translations
(colloquial) a transsexual, transgender or transvestite person
