Perhaps a denominative, from važas (wagon, carriage) + -iuoti. Ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *weǵʰ-.

Also compare vežti (to lead, convey), from Proto-Balto-Slavic *weźtei; važioti (to cart, transport, take for a drive), from Proto-Balto-Slavic *wáźīˀtei.
