From Proto-Albanian *werā or *werwā, perhaps from Proto-Indo-European *h₁wer- (“to be wide, spacious”) (or derivative *h₁wer-u-) and thereby cognate to Sanskrit उरु (urú, “wide”), वरस् (váras, “space, width”), and Greek ευρύς (evrýs, “wide”).[1]
