Etymology

From Japanese やおい (yaoi), an acronym of yama nashi, ochi nashi, imi nashi (ヤマなしオチなし意味なし), "no climax, no point, no meaning". The original meaning was a mockery of other people criticising early yaoi works for being too oriented on sex scenes instead of storylines.
