Polish

Etymology

From zagiąć + -ać.

Pronunciation

  • IPA(key): /zaˈɡi.nat͡ɕ/
  • (file)
  • Rhymes: -inat͡ɕ
  • Syllabification: za‧gi‧nać

Verb

zaginać impf (perfective zagiąć)

  1. (transitive) to bend, to fold
  2. (transitive) to stump, to puzzle
  3. (reflexive) to be bent, to be folded

Usage notes

Senses #1 and #3 refer to imprecise bends or folds. For example, it would appear in phrases zaginać róg strony (to fold the corner of a cage, to make a dog ear) and zaginać czasoprzestrzeń (to bend timespace, figuratively: to make something ostensibly impossible happen). See giąć for related verbs.
