Proto-Balto-Slavic

Etymology

From Proto-Indo-European *gʷʰénti. The zero grade *gʷʰn̥- would normally result in an epenthetic -i- being inserted, thus *gín-tei. This form is found in East Baltic, but Slavic and Prussian both reflect -u- instead, which may be a leftover reflex of the labiovelar.

Verb

*gúntei[1][2]

  1. to chase
