From Proto-Balto-Slavic *grḗˀtei, from Proto-Indo-European *gʷʰr-éh₁-ti, from *gʷʰer- (to heat) + *-éh₁ti (stative suffix). Cognate with Ancient Greek θερέω (theréō), Albanian ngroh.
