Borrowed from (c. 16th-18th century) Early Modern Spanish Jesucristo (“Jesus Christ”). In Early Modern Spanish, Spanish ⟨j⟩ was pronounced /ʃ/; /ʃ/ became /s/ as common with other early borrowings. Doublet of Hesukristo. Attested in Doctrina Christiana.
