Borrowed from the Hanyu Pinyin romanization of the Mandarin Chinese pronunciation for 西雙版納/西双版纳 (Xīshuāngbǎnnà), from Lü ᧑᧒ᦗᧃᦓᦱ (12pannaa) or ᦉᦲᧇᦉᦸᧂᦗᧃᦓᦱ (ṡiibṡoangpannaa).
