gëzof

Albanian

Etymology

According to Orel, either derived from or from the same origin as Ancient Greek γαύσαπος (gaúsapos, frieze), or more likely, a Ancient Macedonian γαυσἃφος (gaushàphos) dialect, as PA derivatives doesnt fit correctly with either greek spelling[1]. The substratum language is or has been influenced by a Semitic source such as Akkadian 𒆪𒍦𒁍 (/kuzippu, guzippu/, cloak, clothing, wrapping especially for warmth). Acording to Jokl, its from an ancient substrate from reconstructed "*gʰốu-di-āpos", probably "bovine"
