According to Mann a cognate to Ancient Greek κανθός (kanthós, “corner of the eye”) - while seen as a loan from Ancient Greek κανθός (kanthós) by Topalli [4] Orel claims it as an early borrowing from Proto-Slavic *kǫtъ.[5][6]
