From Proto-Albanian *kalei-, from Proto-Indo-European *kelH- (“to prick, jab (into); thrust (into)”). Cognate to Lithuanian kálti (“to strike, forge”) and Russian коло́ть (kolótʹ, “to prick, jab, hoe, hack”).[1]
